PABIC - First Pan-African Bicycle Conference
A deficit formulated by the employees of BSPW was the lack of an effective lobbying for cyclists in Uganda. In 1997 the idea of PABIC was developed.
Up to now,BSPW with it's conference PABICO has reached important target: taxes and duties on imported bicycles were reduced in 2000, bikes became cheaper due to the intervention of members of the Ugandan Parliament who support the ideas ofbicycle mobilityW.
BSPW hosted PABIC, the first Pan-African Bicycle Conference in Jinja. From November
21st to 25th 2001 more than 80 participants from all over the world came to exchange ideas about "The Changing Role of the Bicycle in the 21st Century".
At the conference the decision was made to develop a network called PABIN (Pan-African Bicycle Network).
As a result of the conference the JINJA-DECLARATION, which was produced by the participants, was drafted and published.
